Welcome to the Microsoft Office Specialist Test. The following guidelines explain what you can expect when taking the test. Please arrive a few minutes prior to your scheduled test time. A test center administrator will greet you and check you in when you arrive.

When can you take a test @ PROTRAIN?

Tests must be scheduled by appointment ahead of time Monday through Friday from 8:00 to 3:00 p.m., Just call ahead to book your testing appointment.

What to Bring

You will need to present the following items at test time:

  •  Picture ID: driver’s license or passport
  •  Your Microsoft Office Specialist login name and password (if you have previously taken a test)
  •  Payment of $85 per test

What NOT to Bring

Because this is a practical exam, you will not need the following items:

  •  Reference books, Notes, Pencils, Pens, Paper, or Calculator.

What to Expect

Take enough time to thoroughly complete the Candidate Information screens. Exam time will not be deducted for completing these sections. The information you provide on the Candidate Information screens will be used to issue your certificate.

At the end of the exam, you will receive a printout of your Results Page. Please save this printout for future reference.

Pay close attention to how each question is worded. Be precise when answering the questions.

Remember the overall exam is timed. While spending a lot of time on an individual answer will not adversely affect the scoring of that particular question, taking too long may leave you with insufficient time to complete the exam.

If a question is not properly displayed, or an error message is displayed, please stop working on the exam and raise your hand. If you continue working after an error occurs, the exam may not resume where the error occurred.

MICROSOFT OFFICE SPECIALIST EXAMINATIONS:

  • Answer each question as if the end result must be shown to the Exam Administrator.

  • Scoring of answers is based on the end result, not on the method or time taken to complete the task. Errant keystrokes or mouse clicks will not count against your score as long as you achieve the correct result.

IMPORTANT

Check to make sure you have entirely completed each question before clicking the Next button. Once you click the Next button, you will not be able to return to that question. A question will be scored as wrong if it is not properly completed before moving to the next question.

NOTE

When a question asks you to print a document, spreadsheet, or graph, no actual printout will take place. The terminology Default Working Folder or Current Directory refers to the folder, which will open when you select File Open. It usually opens the My Documents folder.

MICROSOFT OFFICE 2000/XP: Credit is given for partially answered questions. For this reason, it is best to complete as many tasks as possible in each question.

We recommend not using Help. However, if you do use Help, always close the Help window before continuing with the question.

To ensure questions are properly completed, please do the following:

  • Verify that all task steps are completed. In Microsoft Excel, when entering data or a formula into a cell, press the Enter/Arrow to ensure information is accepted.

  • Verify that Microsoft Office has completed the task calculations before clicking the Next button.

  • Do NOT execute queries or macros in Microsoft Access, unless you are instructed to do so. Do not test your answer.
